Updates from JSaRC
Last week the JSaRC team, along with our partners ADS and Dods, delivered our first ever online Security & Policing Exhibition. Feedback during and following the event has been excellent, with particular highlights including a keynote speech from the Home Secretary, more than 170 exhibitors from across the security sector and around 9000 registered visitors.
Over the next six months all those who registered to attend the event can still gain access to the platform, with wide-ranging and insightful content, presentations and videos therein.

An Opportunity You Won’t Want to Miss
Final chance to register for the Access to Explosive Materials event
The event will be held in September 2021 at the UK Home Made Explosives (HME) Facility and Centre of Excellence at DSTL Porton Down and will provide a unique opportunity to collect data from a variety of novel HME to assist with the development of detection systems. The deadline for applications has been extended to noon, Friday 19 March 2021.

Protect Duty Consultation Launched– Have your say on the Protect Duty
On 26 February, the Home Office launched a consultation on the ‘Protect Duty’. The Protect Duty is part of the Government’s approach to improving protective security and preparedness at publicly accessible locations to mitigate the impact of a terror attack. The consultation is open to the public and targeted at venues, organisations, businesses, local and public authorities and/or individuals who own or operate at publicly accessible locations. The UK aims to maintain a close relationship with European partners in the next European Research and Innovation Framework Programme: Horizon Europe. The Civil Security for Society calls within Horizon Europe represent a significant opportunity for UK entities to access finance for Research and Innovation to the sum of EUR 413 Million for 2021-2022.

Integrated Review (IR) Announcement and Publication – 16 March 2021
On 16 March, following over a year of work across and beyond government, the Prime Minister announced the culmination of the Integrated Review to the House of Commons.
The Integrated Review of Security, Defence, Development and Foreign Policy is an important milestone for the UK’s security ecosystem. Among the headlines of the IR, an emphasis on openness as a source of prosperity; a more robust position on security and resilience; strengthening security and defence at home and overseas; and building resilience at home and overseas are key messages for the industrial Security and Resilience community. Combining this with the objective of sustaining strategic advantage through science and technology, there is a clear direction to the UK’s entire security ecosystem.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) launches Major Event Security Brochure
Following the announcement from the Minister for Exports, Graham Stuart MP, at Security & Policing 2021 DIT have launched their Major Event Security Brochure.
This brochure highlights the UK security sector’s strengths to overseas buyers who want to ensure that their major events are safe and secure. It provides a snapshot of how UK companies can provide products and services to ensure safety at events such as sporting fixtures, concerts and major conferences. Technology Research Innovation Grant (TRIG) Showcase Webinar
Join the Department for Transport (DfT) and Connected Places Catapult on Tuesday 23 Mach 2021 to hear from innovative organisations that have conducted novel research into some of the future challenges that could arise within national security.
You will learn about early-stage research that explores the following sectors: aviation security; border detection and security; detection of contraband entering prisons; protection of infrastructure and crowded places; and counter-drones.
