The University of Reading is ranked among the top universities worldwide (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019). Research at the University aims to solve some of the biggest problems facing people today, based on four themes with the globally recognised departments of Agriculture, food and health Environment; Heritage and creativity and Prosperity and resilience.
Working across continents and disciplines, our researchers explore ways to tackle climate change, improve human health, provide food security and understand human culture. The themes are open-ended and overlapping, crossing traditional boundaries and allowing them to nurture innovation and deliver impactful and curiosity-driven research. Across these research departments, the university ranked as the number one UK university for citations in environmental and ecological research.
The University is home to more than 19,000 students and has a global presence – with their Whiteknights and London Road campuses in Reading, Henley Business School at Greenlands campus in Henley-upon-Thames, Henley Business School (South Africa) in Johannesburg, and the University of Reading Malaysia in Iskandar, Johor.
The University of Reading has a long-standing relationship with the Defence and Security Sector, through the provision of teaching and learning education for the armed forces to research collaborations with industry and Government establishments. The Defence and Security Community of Practice across the University offers expertise in politics, conflict management, strategic studies, artificial intelligence and big data, philosophy, immersive virtual reality, mathematical modelling political, cultural and social history and information communication.
